What is ELCAS and Who is Eligible?

The Enhanced Learning Credits Administration Service (ELCAS) is a UK Ministry of Defence initiative that supports lifelong learning for members of the Armed Forces. Through ELCAS, current and former service personnel can receive financial support to undertake nationally recognised qualifications at Level 3 or above. Funding is available to eligible individuals who have served a minimum of six years in the military, with claim limits depending on the length of service. The scheme is designed to help individuals upskill, retrain, or transition smoothly into new career paths as part of their personal and professional development.

Courses Available Through ELCAS with DAC Education
As an ELCAS-approved training provider, we are proud to offer a selection of nationally recognised qualifications designed to support service leavers and current Armed Forces personnel in their professional development. Our ELCAS eligible courses include the First Response Emergency Care (FREC) qualification, an ideal foundation for those pursuing roles in emergency medical services or private security. The Outdoor 16-Hour First Aid (Level 3) course, essential for anyone working in remote or adventurous environments. The Lowland Expedition Leader (Level 3) qualification, perfect for individuals looking to lead groups safely in lowland terrain. These courses provide practical, career relevant skills and certifications that are well suited to those transitioning from military service into sectors such as outdoor education, event safety, adventure tourism and emergency response.

If you are eligible for ELCAS funding, you must first apply for support through the ELCAS portal and request approval for the course you wish to attend. Once your application is approved, you will receive a Claim Authorisation Note (CAN) — this is your proof of funding. To book your place, simply tick the ELCAS checkbox on the course page and enter your CAN reference number in the box provided. We are unable to confirm your place or accept any payment until we have received a valid CAN, so please ensure this is in place before proceeding.
