The 4 day First Responder on scene course is an emergency
pre-hospital care course aimed at individuals who want those extra skills or work in an environment where they may need to provide immediate emergency care, such as Fire & Rescue, Police, Military, Search and Rescue, RLNI, Lifeguards and security staff including close protection.
Cover primary and secondary survey, oxygen delivery, airway management, Illness assessment, history taking, Triage, scene safety, bleeding control and how to interact with the emergency medical services at their level, extraction and evacuation.
Our course ends with a half day of scenarios using actors from the casualty’s union. Recreating real-life situations as closely as we can. Using full make-up and all the equipment you have learnt to use previously in the course. This hands-on approach ensures you’re well-prepared for the challenges you may face in an emergency situation.
Major Incident Trauma is a one day course. Major incident trauma is something that anyone could need to deal with but this course is also aimed at the emergency services. Catastrophic injuries from multiple casualty incidents are something that unfortunately are real situations that first responders and members of the public may have to deal with.
The course covers keeping yourself safe and triage of casualties. It also covers many different types of catastrophic injuries and how to treat them. The course is comprehensive and inan intense day. Everything in this course is in the responder course but in this course it is the time crictal moments before EMS arrives at a Major Incident. It includes such things as METHANE, PPE, Mass Casualty Triage, Scene safety, Bleeding control use commercial or improvised tourniquets, knife wounds, Blast wounds, Patient handover to EMS.
The First Responder on Scene course qualification is category C on the FPHC PHEM Skills framework:
Nationally certificated pre-hospital emergency responder (use of airway adjuncts & oxygen).
