Outdoor 8 Hour (1 day) First Aid Course Level 3 (VTQ)
An 8 hour outdoor first aid course is only as good as its location and its instructor. An outdoor course taught inside a classroom seems a little counterproductive. Outdoor first aid training taught by someone who doesn’t have experience of emergencies outdoors… how much valuable learning can they actually teach?
What you need to find is a course that is taught outside, on uneven ground, for example a forest, goes ahead no matter what the weather and is taught by an instructor who is a global expedition leader, search and rescue personnel and a first responder. That is an outdoor first aid course that will prepare you for the realities of a medical emergency happening outdoors.
Luckily, you’ve just found one!
Why Outdoor First Aid Training Is Different
This course is the shorter version of the 2 day (16 hour) outdoor first aid course. This 1 day version is about people who already find themselves outside and responsible, whether they realise it or not.
The teacher who secretly worries about school trips
You’ve planned everything from risk assessments, permission and schedules. You feel prepared and ready to go but there’s always that quiet thought: what if something actually happens to one of the kids? Will i know what to do?
An 8 hour outdoor first aid course will give you the ability to calmly rework the plan.
The weekend hiker who “just goes out for a walk”
It’s never meant to be extreme, just fresh air and a bit of space but uneven ground or sudden weather can change the day quickly.
8 hours of first aid training outdoors can turn a bad situation into a manageable one.

The parent who wants to say “I’ve got this”
Family dog walks, a camping trip, or a day out somewhere remote, there’s a moment every parent recognises that instinct to step forward and take control.
In just 8 hours you can back that instinct with real capability.

The outdoor instructor responsible for others
You’re not just there to lead, you’re there to protect.
The people in your group have the confidence in you that if something goes wrong, you will be the one who take charge and know what to do.
Spend 8 hours being taught by a global expedition leader and they will teach you the realities of how to respond with purpose.

When you’re outdoors, there’s a natural gap between incident and rescue. In or close to towns and cities, help is never too far away but outdoors in remote locations, that’s different. There’s no one else stepping in first, it has to be you.
Can 8 hours of outdoor first aid training change my life?
Maybe not, in the best case scenario, but it probably will in the worst case.
If something does happen while you’re outdoors those 8 hours of specific outdoor first aid training could be the reason someone stays stable, prevents a situation from escalating and protects a life.
The right first aid training can completely change how you respond in an emergency. With specialist outdoor first aid training, you learn how to:
- Stay calm under pressure
- Assess a situation quickly
- Take action with confidence
- Prevent injuries from getting worse
We do not expect you to become a medical expert in just 8 hours but we will not complete the training until we are confident you can walk away and do all of the above if needed. If that means the course may run a little over or the instructor needs to go over something just one more time, then that is what we will do. It’s about knowing what to do confidently when it matters most.
Don't spend 8 hours in a classroom, learn it outdoors
In the end, this is about confidence. Real confidence. The kind that doesn’t come from sitting in a classroom ticking boxes and watching boring powerpoint slides. This comes from being outside, in the elements, learning from someone who has actually faced these situations when they mattered most.
An 8 hour outdoor first aid course, done properly, gives you more than knowledge. It gives you the ability to step into that critical gap between incident and rescue and take control with clarity and purpose. When something happens outdoors, there’s no pause button, no immediate backup, just you and the decisions you make.
Spend just 8 hours in an outdoor environment, with the right instructor, and you walk away knowing that if the moment ever comes, you won’t hesitate. You’ll act.
