Large construction contracts are asking for....

A higher level of First Aid and H&S training.

*We have been contacted by several companies that desperately need us to deliver training as quickly as we can. We have also managed to deliver the training but not always as quickly as they would have likely. So, planning is essential.

Many larger construction contracts such as HS2 and Sizewell. Have written into their contracts they required higher level of First Aid training. They are mostly asking for the 3-day First Aid at Work as an absolute minimum. Some contracts where the risk profile is higher, they are asking for Responder level training such as FREC3 or FROS3.

Both qualifications last 3 years and cover a lot more than the one-day Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW). The Responder courses are normally a 4-day course and go further than the FAW to include Oxygen, Airways and gives the learner a much greater understanding.

Furthermore, commissioners of contracts are asking for suitable first aid kits and in theory can stop a team working if it is not in place.

It is not surprising that the level of first aid required is creeping up. The ambulance service is stretched, and the NHS is under pressure. Having more better qualified people on site make good sense.

Preventing injuries is of the utmost importance to you and of course the commissioner. The HSE 20/21 statistics show that 36.8 million working days were lost due to work-related ill health and workplace injuries. If one of your team was injured and could not work how would this affect the contract targets? Would you complete on time?

Construction had the second highest non-fatal workplace injuries, second only to Agriculture*.

So, getting the correct training in place can prevent your organisation from getting behind, missing deadlines, or even failing to deliver.

With Sizewell C looming and many local companies wanting to be part of the construction process. Having the correct first aid and H&S training in place could be the difference between gaining or losing a good contract.  It is also a legal requirement.

DAC Education is based in Stratford St Andrew, 6.9 miles away from the intended Sizewell C site. We deliver training from our site but also have many elearning courses.

COntact us to enquire or continue to explore the website to find the right training for your company.
